"VIDEO and review for Stylus Pro light" 2008-05-14
By Nutnfancy (USA)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R14P1E1E7LGJEV I remain amazed at the progress in portable lighting technology. Recent advancements in LED quality and brightness levels surpasses past iterations and as of May 2008 this seems to be the best light in this size and form factor. The Stylus Pro is an improvement over the thinner but not-as-bright regular Stylus, also a great little light (and reviewed also in the video). The SP not only has a brighter "high flux" LED but its push button switch makes it one hand operable, a big advantage pretty much in all situations. For these features it is only slightly thicker than the regular Stylus but still very lightweight (only a svelte 1.8 oz). The output is also electronically controlled meaning its brightness will be more consistent and even through the life of the batteries. Other features including materials, battery types, and their clips are covered in the video. Both the Stylus and the Stylus Pro are super quality lights that feature lightweight, small size, and good durability. In the world of small lights the Stylus Pro is currently reigning supreme.
"Great light Great price" 2008-05-31
By Everyman (everywhere)
Lightweight, intense light, easy to operate with one hand- this would be an incredible tool for law enforcement or an emergency responder. I'm buying a few more immediately I doubt one could ask for a more versatile hand held light. The beam is very intense- might even do well as a self-defense item as it is blinding if shone directly in the eyes. Money well spent!
"Super!" 2008-07-03
By B----
Never owned a better light!
Super bright, easy to get batteries, tough construction and even a holster with a lifetime guaranty.
I also bought the Streamlight Ulta Stinger and it too is wonderful.
Streamlight has turned me into a light junkie.
I'm spoiled and will never buy another Maglite nor anything else.
"Say, "Ahhhhhhhhhh"" 2009-02-19
By QuantumJoe83 (Charleston, SC United States)
I am a resident physician and The Streamlight 66118 Stylus Pro is a great light for me. I was tired of using cheap penlights that always seemed to break or flicker and where not very bright for assessing pupilary reflexes and patients' oropharynxes. During the early morning hours when patients are still asleep, this light also comes in very handy to assess surgical wounds as well.
Overall, I'm very happy with this light, and would strongly recommend it to anyone who needs a small but bright light.
"Perfect for doctors!" 2009-10-22
By Doc Stew (Schaumburg, IL)
I'm a veterinarian and have been looking for a penlight that won't break when dropped and won't stop working when wet. I've FINALLY found the perfect light! Not only is this thing shockproof and waterproof, but it also puts out brighter light from a pen light than I've ever seen in my life. I finally can get accurate pupillary light reflexes from a pen light! I've recommended this to many veterinarians, and all have given rave reviews! This little flashlight is amazing!

"4 ports are better than 1" 2008-05-19
By D. Dodson
First, I want to clarify from the other review that said this only had 3 usable ports and 1 for the cigarette lighter only. This didn't make sense to me because a normal cig. lighter is typically used for other DC items. The fact is, there is one marked for a cig. lighter, and the other 3 cannot. But all 4 can be used for any electronics. There are 4 12V-DC power sockets.
Second, the size is not that bad for having 4 ports. I ordered the 3-port and 4-port and they're both the same size.
I've been using this with a GPS, Sirius radio, and phone charger with no problems. I'm sure I'll be able to add more items as well.
UPDATE:
After using this for over a year, I have no problems and am glad to have the extra ports. Many times I've used all four ports plus an additional one in my vehicle. I have it sitting loosely in a van and it takes a beating well. Every once in awhile I have to wiggle one of the cables, or pull it out and plug it back in, but it works! I'm definitely happy with this.
"The ONLY solution for those who have many/high powered electronics" 2007-12-28
By R. Harriston (Richmond, VA)
I have gone through 4 different cigarette adapter splitters, only to fin that all of them blew the fuses in my car after trying to put a 3rd electronic in. i bought two of these (i have to outlets) and it works great. In the 1st one I have my xm, gps, and a set of neon lights connected. the second has 1 set of neon lights, 1 set of led lights, and a dvd player hooked up. They work great.
Pros:
-great value
-only one ive found not to blow fuses constantly
-comes with mounting tape/ screws and plastic pad
Cons:
-Its really big and kind of awkward
-the safety caps are annoying (i just cut them off so its fine)
but the trade off is more than worth the convenience of this thing
"Really holds four adapters and they don't fall out!" 2008-08-31
By Lyzzard (Kansas City, MO USA)
We already had a power port similiar to this (with only two sockets) but it did not hold the adapters in tightly. They would constantly come unplugged and we would lose power to the portable DVD players and have to go all through the menu again and scene selections. This one is great! It tightly held the adapters and we have had no power loss problems.
"Worked perfectly!" 2008-08-19
By Bad Cat! (Duluth, MN USA)
I bought this to use as an extension cord/multiple outlet to use in my car. The cord extends about 4 feet, allowing the main unit to sit comfortably in the middle or back of the car. While a different (cheap) multi-plug outlet died early in the trip, this unit survived the full journey (many 12-hour driving days), powering one GPS, two cell phones, and a portable fridge! There were absolutely no problems with this unit. It didn't blow a fuse or even warm up at all. The unit isn't nearly as huge or heavy as others claimed - it is exactly the size and weight I'd expect for a four-outlet unit. Measures about 5.25" x 3" x 1.75" with a removable bracket on the base. A great product for the price!
"Great Car Accessory for Anyone with Lots of Accessories" 2009-03-01
By Joseph D. Lanzendorfer (Delaware, USA)
I've got a satellite radio, a GPS system, a power inverter for my laptop, chargers for my phone and bluetooth, and I'm thinking about getting a radar detector, and all of these devices use the one cigarette lighter in my car. Before I bought this device, I had to pick and choose which one I wanted to use, and every now and then I want to be able to light a cigarette. I still can't do 6 things at once, but 4 is much better, and the plug on the far left still works with your car's cigarette lighter. It also comes with a mounting device and a special two-sided sticker so you can put it just about anywhere in your car or truck.
Only thing you need to keep in mind is that just because you have 4 plugs doesn't mean you can go crazy. The fuse is still designed to cut off at around 90 watts or something like that to keep the plug from frying, so don't put 4 power-hungry devices in all at once or you might be out one dashboard for the rest of the road trip.

Neiko Stainless Steel 6-Inch Digital Caliper with Extra-Large LCD Screen - Instant SAE-Metric Conversion Review. When you require exact measuring, you reach for a caliper. But an accurate measurement is meaningless if you can't read it accurately. This caliper takes an essential tool into the 21st century with an extra-large LCD digital readout for exact internal and outside measurements accurate to .001". Instantly converts from SAE or Metric, the display can be zeroed at any point on the slide. Machine-grooved thumb-roll mechanism and position lock for sure adjustment. Hardened stainless steel shaft with depth-measurement probe, precision ground jaws. On-off switch with auto-off, two long-life batteries included (one spare)....
"Versatile, easy to use and accurate" 2007-02-13
By In the Middle of the Road (Connecticut)
If you want analog, this is not for you. I've got three calipers including this one. One is metric only. Another is inches only. And then here's this one which does both with very good accuracy.
It has a good solid feel and the digital readoutis handled by three simple button controls. I frequently use it in preference to the more expensive alternates because it's accurate and I sometimes want to do both inch and metric measurements without having to use a second tool.
It does not offer an alternatie analog readout except in the crudest terms. It shouldn't.
"Excellent !!!" 2008-10-18

For the money, you cannot beat this product. I work in a Navy calibration laboratory and calibrated it with gage block standards and it was right on, dead nutz.
"Digital Calipers" 2007-09-04
By M. Augustis
What a bargain? This product allows me to make high resolution measurements in multiple directions. It has a digital readout that switches from US to Metric redouts, and is very durable stainless steel fro an excellent price.
"Surprisingly well made and solid feel" 2007-07-10
By G. Lee (New Jersey)
I was surprised to see how well made this tool is. The actual calipers were machined with precision and fits together very well when closed. The moving parts all operate smoothly. The zero at any point is a good feature if you want to measure differences. Also, to have both metric and SAE on the same unit is just gravy. I might had gotten 800 on my SAT back in the day but now I can barely calculate changes at McD...
"Digital Caliper, Large Screen, 6"" 2009-05-20
By B. Arnold
This is an excellent product. Everything worked as expected. It's very easy to read. The fractional option is seldom used but it's nice to know that it's there. I particularly liked the fact that it turns on and shuts off automatically. (No more dead batteries!) It's an instrument that you just use without any frustrations. I plan to buy another.

By Mike Hunt (Boston, MA)
This Kidde Carbon Monoxide Alarm is great. Nice style and simple to install and use. The digital display is easy to read because it is backlit. Test/Reset button is easy to locate. The front load battery is the best, no more having to pull the unit to change batteries.
Thanks Kidde and Amazon.com!!!
"Great CO detector at a great price." 2006-03-22
By C. Breslin (Pennsylvania, USA)
I'm reviewing the Kidde 900-0146-004 Nighthawk Carbon Monoxide Alarm. This unit was incredibly easy to set up straight out of the box. It's also easy to hang. And for those that do no wish to hang it up on a wall, it has a small "kick stand" in the back that enables it to stand by itself on a shelf. The unit is simple to use and has an LED that is easy to read. I'm very happy with this purchase.
"Carbon Monoxide Alarm" 2006-08-17
By Steve Black (Garrison, Minnesota USA)
I've only had this product for one month which isn't very long but what i really like about it is the digital readout. The digital readout takes any guess work out of the picture. Another nice feature is the low battery alarm that tells you when to replace the batteries. This unit should be replaced after seven years ( like most i suppose ) and it even will sound an alarm that tells you when it's time to replace it. I can't see any reason to buy any other Carbon Monoxide Alarm. So far i think it's worth every penny and i recommend it to everyone.
"Nice Product Kidde" 2006-01-09

This Kidde Carbon Monoxide Alarm is nice for one reason.
The batteries are in front and I do not have to remove to replace. I change the batteries every month during the heating season. Nice Product Kidde and Amazon.com!
"Testing Kiddes CO Detector" 2007-11-21
By Brian A. Whatcott
I placed a bell jar over a candle til it guttered. I moved the bell jar slowly, to cover the CO detector. Initially, there was no observable change. But after less than a minute, the digital indicator started climbing. The notes mentioned that below a cut off concentration, there is no indication at all, and that's what I found. It was attractively priced and functional and I can use it as a sampling meter at a pinch. It has a longish time constant, which is probably as it should be. I liked the peak concentration storage/display capability.
Neat!

"DeWalt Tools are best on market" 2005-12-02
By T. Schulte (O'Fallon, Missouri USA)
I own/run a low voltage company in St. Louis. We pre-wire houses for phone/TV/networking, install intercoms, security, and central vacuum systems, and home theatres as well. We currently have 20+ DeWalt 18volt cordless tools and at least that many batteries. We are constantly asked by carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and competitiors how the tools hold up.
We can drill 100+ 3/4 holes on one battery every day with no problem. We can drill 10+ 2 1/4" holes with a DeWalt self feed bit on one battery. The recip saw, the circular saw, the angle grinder, and the flashlights all work flawlessly. We even have the vacuums so we can clean up after ourselves.
Now the old batteries (all black) last about 1 year for regular use. We have a few new batteries (yellow top) that are a little over a year old that show no sign of slowing down.
We have found that when it is cold they do not last as long. Also the charge needs to be in a semi warm area (not in a garage). Also, the battery needs to be drained most of the way before charging. Repeated recharging of a half dead battery dramatically reduces the life. But any battery manufacturer will tell you that.
"Dewalt makes some great stuff. I love my 18v cordless tools!" 2006-04-22
By Mike (Kokomo, IN USA)
I'm hearing a lot of complaints about the batteries. Face it, the batteries are based on NiCad technology. NiCad are not known for infinite shelf-life, has a memory, and absolutely hates to be placed on a charger for extended periods of time.
Now knowing all the good and bad things about NiCads, these batteries are absolutely no different than you will find in any other system using NiCads. If you don't understand the why your batteries are dying off so quickly, it most likely can be explained by researching the things to do and not do to NiCads.
I've beat the hell out of the tools and the batteries and still manage to get an excess of 2yrs of service out of these batteries. If you open one of these up, all you find is a series of sub-C NiCad batteries in them. Count them up and just go price sub-C NiCad batteries with the same Amp-Hr rating. You will soon fine that even if you tried to replace the batteries into the existing battery case, it is still cheaper and easier to buy replacements.
Rechargable batteries of any technology do NOT have infinite life. With absolutely following standard practice care of the battery type, you can extend this life to the theoritical max. That is hard to do on the job site when you need to get the job done quick. I use the 15min. charger, which is great but at a significant cost in service life of the batteries. You are never supposed to charge the batteries while they are hot. This means if you run it down at the job site, you shouldn't be placing them into a rapid charger. You should have enough spare batteries to get you busy while letting a natural battery rotation occur that insures they are cool when you charge. Slow charging extends the life of the batteries as well by getting internal temperatures lower. You should never leave a NiCad on a charger. You should run down the NiCad battery before charging to help avoid memory.
You can mention any battery technology and there are do's and don'ts. I've had Lithium Ion batteries in a cell phone last less than 1yr.
It all depends on your battery usage habits. Once you understand what you are supposed to do to extend the batteries life, you can usually figure out pretty quickly why you are not getting the life you expected.
Good solid product. I'd buy them again without hesitation. And I have yet to see any group of cordless tool manufacture's use a standard battery interface so that you can use the same battery in different brands of cordless tools. So being locked-in to a particular cordless tool manufacturer is a given.
This is all the price you pay for being cordless. The only way around all this is to pull out the ole 50' extension cord.
IMHO
"Dewalt 18 volt tools" 2006-02-08
By Steven Smit (Collierville, TN USA)
I have used Dewalt 18 volt tools for several years and a 24 volt saw for the last 3 years. Out of 5 18 volt batteries only one died after 2 years of use and it was used when I got it. The 24 volt saw has only one battery and it works as good as the day I bought it. These tools are used almost daily and I dont do a good job of taking care of them.
"It was finally time to replace my batteries" 2005-11-05
By Richard L Ellis Jr (Scarsdale, NY United States)
The Dewalt tool system works very well. The weak link is, of course, the batteries. Mine lasted three years but it was my fault they needed to be replaced. I have a number of friends who have never had a problem, some who use them every day, and others who use them once in a while. The killer of these batteries is temperature. You will kill them if you run them in the summer til they are hot to the touch then try and charge them right away. Or, as in my case, you use and charge them in the cold. They also don't like getting wet. Boat owners have told me they only last a year on the salt water. Last winter I left my two batteries in my unheated garage with one of them plugged in all winter. The one that was plugged in never worked again and the other one only had about half of its capacity left. This was not Dewalts fault. I'm happy to get two new batteries for $99.
"Outstanding product, outstanding value!" 2005-12-21
By E. Henderson (New Orleans, LA)
I bought my DeWalt 4-piece combo set (recip saw, trim saw, drill, light) six years ago and only this month had to replace a battery. I take care of my tools. I use them hard, but follow the manufacturer's guidance on maintenance/recharging. Granted, the replacements are expensive ($99.00 for a two battery combo ), but I would rather pay this amount for a reliable tool instead of paying half as much for a tool that lasts a fourth as long. Six years use out of a set of rechargeable batteries is well worth the money.

"Great for very specific uses" 2010-07-16
By Karen C. Gephardt
I have done extensive home upgrades and repairs over the years, having accumulated numerous types of saws, but I purchased this multi-purpose tool to address a single issue that I have not encountered in the past 45 years. Having seen advertisements for this type of tool, I was positive that this was the only tool that could successfully address this need to expand the attic opening to my AIR CONDITIONING air handler. All other efforts would have resulted in a time consuming 'cluggy' result. In deciding to postpone this work and purchasing this Genesis GMT15A tool, I was able to very simple and very precisely complete this job.
In a comparison with similar multi-purchase tools, I found the Genesis GMT15A to be 'on a pair' in performance, while costing about approx. 50% less. I had determined that this purchase would have been worth it, if only to get this one job done. But after receiving this tool, I can see that it will be a 'go to' produce in many of my future efforts.
"Amazing" 2010-07-07
By LEE RHOADS (San Francisco Bay Area, California)
This is an all around good tool to have handy when you need it. I haven't had this tool very long but it's many functions has saved the day several times. It is sort of like before the wheel. We got around just fine until somebody came up with the wheel. Then we just couldn't do without having one around all of the time. This Oscillating Tool is also a bargain. It has saved me its' cost in less than two weeks. Now, just like the wheel, I don't want to be without one.
"Not a bad choice if you don't want to spend >$100" 2010-10-11
By F. Mahon
I struggled with buying the Rockwell or even a used Fein, not being able to justify spending a whole lot on a tool that would just be used around the house. I needed it for one particular project but wasn't sure how much use it would get beyond that.
It's worked great so far (for cuts in wood and some sanding). No problems with overheating motor or loosening of the blade during use. There's no question these tools are handy, and I've been using it a lot more than I thought I would.
That said, it could easily crap out on me tomorrow. But for the $35 I paid for it I'm very happy with its performance so far. I generally like to buy "name brand" tools and usually the professional ones if possible, but I highly recommend this tool for the homeowner.
By the way, Bosch is coming out with an adapter so that any multi-tool can be used with any brand's accessories/blades. So you should be able to put a higher quality cutting blade (with the higher price) on this tool if you wanted.
"Great tool for Home Improvement jobs" 2010-09-23
By L. Podrasky (Michigan)
I am remodeling my kitchen. I knocked out a partial wall and rewired outlets and fixtures. This tool is my favorite tool during this remodeling. It cuts through studs like butter. Makes clean cuts for drywall repair. I even had to saw out a section of a 2x12 header to get at an electrical junction which I don't think I could have done without this tool. This tool is now among my favorites for being handy, effectual, and useful for many projects. I love it. The cost is unbelievable low for such a good tool. I highly recommend it.
"Great little tool for the price" 2010-09-30
By dunwawry (North Carolina)
I received the Genesis Multifunction Oscillating Tool about a week ago. Compared to bigger "name brands", you can't beat the price with a stick. I have used the semicircular saw accessory to trim some quarter round molding for laminate floors (not real wood) and found that it was slow and left burn marks that needed to be subsequently sanded clean. But last night I started using it for what I mainly bought it for, after seeing the infomercial for a competitor's product, to scrape original vinyl flooring off a concrete slab in my guest bath in preparation for laying tile. It is working awesome for that and making the job go quickly. I got half the bathroom done (5'x 7' floored area) in about an hour, and I am a middle-aged female who has some physical challenges, although will still need to address some adhesive residue left behind (would be nice if it could perform miracles and got all the residue too, but sadly, it doesn't).
I am also in the process of refinishing some pieces of furniture and can see this tool coming in handy with sanding corners and some of the detail work that otherwise would have had to have been done by hand. With the backlog of DIY projects I have right now and a deadline of completing them before guests arrive for the holidays (as well as REALLY wanting to get the toilet back out of my guest bathtub and functional again), any $35 tool that can save me time is more than worth the price. I would put this on the list, along with a multifunction rotary tool, as a must-have for the home DIY person, especially those who don't have a garage full of tools and don't want to go out and buy them.

"The last desperate act" 2009-07-15
By Michael Wright (arkansas)
The whole idea is keep fleas out of your house. Once they have invaded What do you do? I have tried every thing, sprays, powers you name it. These have been temporary solution at best. the best response to the invasion is to trap them. Each of the invaders you trap is 200 fleas removed. Once they are trapped, no kids. Yes the trap works and it removes fleas with out the deadly chemicals. If fleas get into your house and you prefer not to kill all the other residents of your house try the traps.

"Catches More Than Fleas" 2009-12-22
By Ursula K. Raphael (USA)
I first started using the Victor Ultimate Flea Trap when I lived in California because we had a problem with sand fleas coming in our back patio screen door. We also didn't want to use any pesticides, since we had four small house pets.
When we moved to Michigan, we continued using the traps because our child was born, and we felt even more strongly about avoiding pesticides. Although we did not have a flea problem, the traps have caught several types of spiders, the occasional house fly, a few random creepy crawlies, and even a hornet! Basically, they seem to trap anything attracted to the light/heat.
We keep them tucked away, out of sight (ex: in a back corner of our furnace room, under furniture), and in places where the pets can't get too curious -- getting a refill stuck to your skin (or dog fur) is the absolute worse.
All in all, I think we've been using these traps for nearly ten years now. The bulbs can be replaced with regular night light bulbs or the new LED bulbs.
"it works so I bought these refills" 2010-06-27
By stature (tu)
I have the trap and am on the second sticky pad (the unit that I
bought came with two sticky pads).
So, I bought the refill pack (which comes with three sticky pads).
I use my trap in the room that the dog sleeps in. In the daytime,
the dog is not in the room, the room is made dark, blinds closed,
door closed, from morning till night. The trap gets about 3-4
fleas per day and after a month that sticky pad looks disgusting
and coated with fleas. The key for me is to keep the room dark
during the day and keep the dog out of the room. The trap is the
only source of warmth and light in the room and attracts the fleas.
This is a terrible flea season where I live, and nothing in the
yard, or frontline on the dog seems to help. I walk my dog every
day so he will always pick fleas up. In addition to the trap
I've tried nemotodes in the yard and wet down the dog and flea
comb them off my dog and drown those fleas in soapy water about
two to three times per week. I've also got diatomaceous earth
rubbed into his bedding. I vacuum frequently.
This trap thing is great because its
no work compared to all the other things I do to fight fleas.
So I recommend buying these refills
"its a refill" 2009-10-21
By James F. Snider (Philly)
Works just as good an original that came with trap. This product is great for keeping a watch out for fleas. If you have a pest co. you can just show them the trap and say look I still have fleas. If this is the only light on at night and if you have a flea in the house it will be on this trap in the morning.

Mag-Lite ST3D016 3-D Cell LED Flashlight, Black Review. ...
"Best LED Flashlight for the Price" 2008-01-05
By K. Romeo (Springfield, VA)
After doing exhaustive research on the web for LED flashlights, I decided to give this one a try. I have owned other LED flashlights and have NOT always been happy with these products. Some reasons why I like this one more than the others include: 1) price, 2) quality, 3) adjustability of the beam (small bright dense center or wider softer light), 4) includes an extra bulb in the base just in case the first one breaks, 5) you can purchase other types of bulbs, like Xenon, separately if you need them, 5) has good battery life (some lose brightness intensity very fast after a few minute of continuous use. Other LED flashlights have smaller multiple light bulbs and you can't adjust the beam intensity as you sometimes need to do on search and rescue missions. Of the 4 LED flashlights I own, this one is my favorite. It works great in a power outage, for hiking/backpacking (only when using out of the car, a little too heavy for a few night loop), and for search a rescue missions. For the price and quality you can't beat this powerhouse flashlight.

By NLee the Engineer (Nashua, NH)
This Mag-Lite ST3D016 3-D Cell LED Flashlight features the second-generation LED technology by Maglite. You may be alarmed that many of the older Amazon reviews are highly critical about this product. However, please note that the 2nd-gen LED Maglite was not even available before May 2009. That means earlier reviews were all based on the inferior first-gen Maglite LED flashlight.
The 2nd-gen Maglite LED flashlight offers many improvements over the first-generation version:
1. Brighter LED:
The new Maglite uses a Luxeon 'Rebel ES' 3-Watt LED as light source (check my Customer Image to see how it looks like). This LED is significantly brighter, whiter and more energy-efficient than the previous 'Lux III' LED used in 1st-gen Maglite.
2. Improved Heat Sink:
The overheating problem found in 1st-gen LED modules has been solved. That is, the light no longer dims down after just a few minutes of operation.
3. Better Power Management:
The new Maglite maintains constant power consumption of 2W as long as battery voltage is above 3.5V. That means it produces the same brightness whether powered by 3x NiMH cells (3.75V), or 3x alkaline cells (4.5V). When battery voltage drops below 3.5V, the light dims down gradually to conserve power, instead of abruptly drops dead like in 1st-gen. (See my Customer Image for chart of Input Power vs. Battery Voltage)
4. Sharper Focusing:
The 'Spot' mode is now very tight, with hardly any spill over. The 'Wide' mode is more even, without an ugly black hole in the middle. (See my Customer Image for beam shots)
Some other observations:
- Light output of this Maglite 3-D LED flashlight is rated at '104-lumen'. I have no reason to doubt this number, because it is significantly brighter than the Maglite 2-AA mini LED, which is rated at 69-lumen. This claim is also consistent with the spec sheet of Luxeon Rebel ES LED, with the input power at 2W.
- The battery life is rated at '72-hour'. Based on my calculation, a set of three alkaline D-cells should be able to power the light at full power (2W) for 30-40 hours. After that, the light will start to dim down gradually over the course of next 30-40 hours.
The only 'shortcoming' of this 3xD-cell Maglite is its size and weight. It is true that you can find other LED flashlights that also advertise '100-lumen', but powered by just 2xAA or even 3xAAA cells. However, the total energy stored in each D-size alkaline cell is about 7x greater than that in one AA cell. So by using three D-cells instead of two AA cells, this Maglite is able to burn at full brightness for 10 times longer. Most other LED flashlights only provide full brightness initially, when batteries are fresh. Physics don't lie. Marketing people do.
Bottom line:
Don't be discouraged by outdated negative reviews! This 2nd-gen Maglite LED flashlight is a very capable, rugged workhorse. Of course, if you need a more compact unit, then consider the MAGLITE 2-AA Cell Mini-Maglite LED Flashlight instead. It offers the 2nd-gen LED technology, too.
"Great Mag Lite quality, now with an LED" 2008-10-21
By Dragon Speak (USA)
This is the same high quality Mag Lite that has been around for so long, but with a 3 watt led to replace the incandescent bulb.
One would expect a bright white or bluish led light, but a pleasant surprise is that Mag selected slightly yellow LEDs and so there is not an overly blue beam.
The beam throws well, and is a bit brighter than the incandescent.
The battery run time is 5 times as long than before, and while the incandescent gets to half brightness in 90 minutes, it takes 6 hours to 50 percent brightness with this flashlight, with the remainder of the life about 20 hours with usable brightness.
The led is rated at 50,000 hours of life.
Recently my 3 D Mag Lite slipped and fell on concrete head first, with no noticeable damage.
This light is still focusable as before, via turning the head which contains the usual parabolic reflector.
The 4 D Mag Lite seems a bit large and clumsy, but this 3 D is just right. And I have noticed, quite by accident, that no one seems to argue with me when I am holding this particular size light.
To sum up, much longer batter life, brighter, durable, high Mag quality.
A great light.
Shop for price, it can vary from 20 dollars on up.
"For reliability and Peace of mind, this is it!" 2008-02-25
By W. Hill (New England)
My Mom is getting old and lives alone. We live in rural Maine, and the power goes out at least a few times each year. She's willing to spend about 99 cents on a flashlight, and then won't change batteries when the beam gets dim. Since I'm an active guy who loves cool stuff, I know the value of this $25 light beats those cheap junk ones. I bought this one for her so she'll be safer. With LED, the batteries last so long, she'll be able to see whenever she needs it. If she drops it, it will still work. AND the light is powerful white, so it will likely save her an accidental fall or two. What a simple way to lessen risk for an elderly parent on a budget. If you ever NEED a flashlight, you might as well have one that will last, be super bright, and save you money in batteries over its lifetime as well. Considering everything, the price is a great deal!
"MAG Instruments still produce quality." 2008-06-01
By Kyle Weiss (Reno, NV)
I'm not a flashlight expert.
I wouldn't claim to be quite as bright as any products MAG Instruments can produce, either.
What I wanted was a flashlight that didn't cost $150, took standard batteries that didn't cost half as much as the flashlight, a bright LED bulb, and wouldn't break inherently or other silly things, like switches.
MAG Instruments has been making flashlights that have been helping cops and security for years, doubling as a nice skull-cracker and eye-blinder. It's saved countless motorists, bikers and truckers from nights of dead car batteries and flat tires under the crappiest and cuss-induced conditions imaginable.
It's the proper tool for the job, as far as I'm concerned. You can't beat a classic, that is, unless it's an improved classic with an unbelievably bright LED bulb.
Well done, MAG.
Oh and consider getting the 4D model for this reason: "D" sized batteries get sold in 4's. Makes sense, right?
The 3D model is just easier to pocket and stash in the car without sacrificing too much balance and power capacity, if you ask me. Just some ideas, get the right tool for what you need, obviously.

"Why hasn't someone done this before?" 2007-01-31
By J. Holmes (Oberlin, Ohio)
I bought this for use in my garage workshop, to control a small gas wall furnace/space heater. The heater has its own thermostat, but it's not programmable and it's terribly inaccurate, prone to wide fluxuations in temperature. This device does a lovely job of keeping the shop comfortable when I expect to be there while letting the place cool off at night to save energy. It's lovely, and such a simple idea that I wonder who no other thermostat manufacturer seems to offer an equivalent product.
"Great product" 2007-10-26

Easy to use, durable and priced right. I use it inside a sound proof pump box to turn on the cooling fan when the pump gets to hot. Been close to a year and no issues.

"Great Programmable Thermostat" 2009-10-19
By C. Scott (Gaithersburg, MD USA)
This device is way more than I expected.
All I was looking for was an accurate digital thermostat to turn my space heater on and off because the built in thermostats never work very well.
This unit works just like a regular multi day programmable home thermostat.
It has a 4 timer weekday setting, with temporary and permanent HOLD.
And a 4 timer weekend setting, with temporary and permanent HOLD.
For better accuracy, try not to plug the unit into an exterior wall outlet. Sometimes the outlets have a slight draft, and the thermostat may not register correctly.
"The Win 100 is an outstanding product!" 2009-01-21
By Shutterbug (El Dorado, CA USA)
I purchased the Winn 100 to control the Infrared healting element I use to heat my barn where our prized dogs sleep. I am totally pleased with the way this device works. I have it set to turn on the 1200 volt infrared light (which is attached to the barn wall) when the temperature drops below 55 degrees and it works flawlessly 24/7. The Winn 100 not only keeps our dogs comfortable during the cold months but it also saves us $$$ on our light bill. I am thrilled with this product and I know you will be too. You won't be dissapointed!!

"Good cells" 2010-04-28
By Eric E. (Indiana)
These are excellent cells. I have never had a problem with them. Please follow safety instructions and do not use mixed lithium cells together. Google 'vent with flame' to find out why.
To D. annino who gave these cells a one star for receiving expired cells. The date code on these cells is in week/year format and is a MANUFACTURE date, not an expiration date. You most likely didn't receive expired cells.
"Always purchase brand named batteries" 2008-12-26
By R. Ashby (Western NY)
When you purchase lithium batteries always purchase a reputable brand name. Streamlight is a reputable source for cr123 lithium batteries.
"Great product, Great Price" 2010-03-18
By Frank T. Steele (Phoenix, AZ USA)
I use this in my high-end flash lights and my water treatment. never pay crazy money to Energizer or Sure Fire for these. The Streamlights work just as well.
"1/5 the price of local store, works" 2010-05-18
By Kwan L. Lowe (Florida, USA)
These batteries are $5 a piece locally. So far I've used up a couple in a Fenix 265 light which claims close to 2 hours runtime on the brightest setting. Though I didn't use the turbo mode consistently as I was bouncing between all the different modes, I'd estimate that I got at least 1 hour combined at the brightest setting and another 5 or so at the regular settings; i.e., around 6 hours total with 1 hour at the brightest output. Not bad at all.
"One of the Better prices for a 12-pack of CR123A's" 2010-08-10
By RJ
The Streamlight Name, the price, shipping, etc...made this what I feel is one of the best choices for a 12-Pack of these batteries....used in a huge number of small, powerful flashlights, something everyone ought to consider as a staple for both home and vehicle. Flashlights in this category are FAR more powerful than large "D" cell flashlight, and much more portable.

"Very Happy with Lightsticks and SurvivalKitsOnline Service!!" 2009-12-15
By C. Allen (Hollywood, CA USA)
The light sticks are truly the best I have found. They last and are bright all at a good price. Sometimes when people write reviews they don't specify which company they had a good or bad experience with and I feel it is important to give credit or criticism correctly. I have order several times from Survivalkitsonline and have only had great service from this company. My order arrived promptly and was packaged well. Survivalkitsonline has exceeded my expectations. Thank you.
